Job Responsibilities

  • Patient screening procedures, such as assessment of oral health conditions, review of the health history, oral cancer screening, head and neck inspection, dental charting
  • Taking and developing dental radiographs (x-rays)
  • Removing calculus and plaque (hard and soft deposits) from all surfaces of the teeth
  • Applying preventive materials to the teeth (e.g. sealants and fluorides)
  • Teaching patients appropriate oral hygiene strategies to maintain oral health; (e.g. tooth brushing, flossing and nutrition and its impact on oral health
  • Making impressions of patients’ teeth for study casts (models of teeth used by dentists to evaluate patient treatment needs)
  • Performing documentation and office management activities

Qualifications

  • A degree from an accredited dental hygiene school and a State license is required
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in urgent or emergency situations.
  • Exceptional customer service and intra-personal skills required.

COVID-related job information

We are doing everything we can to keep our patients and our staff safe during this pandemic. Here are some of the precautions we are taking at this time:

  • Screening patients when scheduling appointments
  • Screening patients upon arrival
  • Patients wait in their car until they are brought back to the operatory
  • Taking patients’ temperature and having them rinse with mouthwash prior to care
  • Avoiding aerosol-generating procedures whenever possible
  • Staff always wear a fit-tested N-95 mask while performing aerosol-generating procedures
  • Staff wear isolation gowns (laundered professionally, face shields, and masks (Level 3 or N-95) for every appointment
  • Every operatory can be used as an isolation room and will be sanitized with an HOCL fogger after aerosol-generating procedures.
